Many people claim that using cannabidiol (CBD) helps them sleep. While more research is needed, some studies do support these claims. When testing multiple CBD gummies ourselves, we experienced varying results.
We started by vetting more than 150 CBD gummies from more than 50 brands — and we continue to vet new options.
We put 20 of them through firsthand testing after they passed initial vetting (we first like to ensure that brands have updated certificates of analysis (COAs) and don’t make misleading health or marketing claims).
Below, you’ll find our picks of the best CBD gummies for sleep.
Note: In some cases, the products below were provided by the manufacturers to our testers for free. However, our opinions and reviews are ours alone and have not been reviewed, approved, or otherwise endorsed by the manufacturers.
There are many CBD gummies out there — and some are marketed for sleep specifically. You may be wondering how to choose the best option.
Skip the added ingredients
Many CBD gummies for sleep contain added ingredients, like melatonin.
Melatonin is a hormone our bodies naturally produce to prepare us for sleep. It’s also available as a dietary supplement, which people often use as a sleep aid. However, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not regulate melatonin as a supplement.
We chose not to include CBD gummies containing melatonin on our list. This is partly because there’s little research on how CBD interacts with melatonin — in other words, it’s not clear whether it’s safe to use CBD and melatonin together.
Temper your expectations
Researchers say edible CBD products, including gummies, have become popular because they’re a discreet way to try CBD for health, and consumers believe that CBD can help with sleep and other health concerns, such as stress, anxiety, and pain.
However, while no studies have looked into how effective CBD gummies are for sleep, there is research on how effective CBD as an ingredient can be.
For instance, a 2024 study found that low doses of CBD may improve sleep quality and that CBD is safe to use for sleep.
The study involved 1,793 adults who used 15 mg of CBD or 5 mg of melatonin. Most participants noticed an improvement in their sleep quality. There wasn’t a significant difference between those who received CBD (with or without other cannabinoids) and those who received melatonin.

That said, 2021 research states that long-term CBD use, low CBD doses, and high THC doses can have negative effects on sleep. It also highlights that many studies do not consider the effectiveness of edible CBD, which can take longer to start working but work for longer compared to smoking cannabis.
Check reviews
You can read reviews of CBD gummies to see whether people have found them useful for sleep. But, keep in mind that what works for one person might not work for another.
We first selected these CBD products based on criteria we think are good indicators of safety, quality, and transparency. We then put gummies through hands-on testing and chose the ones that garnered the most positive feedback on how they affected sleep.
Our Medical Standards and Insights team has carefully researched and vetted over 11,000 products and services. We fact-check health claims, evaluate ingredients, and look into each brand’s reputation before sharing products and services on Healthline.
To choose the products on this page, we considered all the CBD gummies that passed our vetting process. Then, we personally tested some of them to narrow down our list even further. Read more about how we test CBD products.
If you’re looking for something other than a gummy, we’ve also rounded up other CBD oils and capsules that have proved beneficial for sleep.
It’s important to keep in mind that CBD shouldn’t be used by children. It’s also not safe for people who are nursing or pregnant.
Otherwise, research suggests that CBD generally has few side effects. However, it may cause:
- tiredness
- appetite and weight changes
- diarrhea
Additionally, CBD may interact with certain medications.
It’s important to talk with a healthcare professional before taking CBD. They can help you determine whether it’s safe for you to take and talk with you about any potential side effects or interactions.
Four gummies stand out in our testing for restful sleep: Cornbread Hemp (best organic), Aspen Green (high potency), CBDfx (great for a low sugar option), and Nuleaf Naturals (best for relaxation). We also rate Joy Organics as a good option for easing anxiety before sleep, although we have not tested this product yet.
Researchers have not identified a specific dosage of CBD that’s best for sleep. It’s helpful to experiment with CBD until you find a dosage that works for you. Try starting with a low dose — 5 mg to 20 mg, for example — and gradually increasing it if necessary.
Full-spectrum CBD might be best for sleeping, though more research is necessary to explore this.
Full-spectrum CBD products contain more than just CBD. They also contain small amounts of other cannabinoids, such as cannabigerol (CBG), cannabinol (CBN), and THC — all of which may have a variety of health benefits.
Aspen Green, Cornbread Hemp, and Nuleaf Naturals are our full-spectrum gummy picks for sleep.
On the other hand, a 2024 study found that 15 mg of CBD isolate seemed to work for sleep just as well as CBD with additions of CBN and cannabichromene (CBC), suggesting that CBD isolate may also help you sleep better.

It may not be appropriate to take sleep gummies every night. Research has shown that long-term use of CBD gummies can make sleep problems worse. There’s also not enough evidence to support the safety of long-term melatonin use, which is a common ingredient in sleep gummies.
While research is mixed, some people find that CBD helps them with sleep.
The CBD gummies in this article were selected for their quality, safety, and transparency. But it’s still important to seek medical advice before using CBD. If you have persistent insomnia that doesn’t respond to lifestyle changes, consider speaking with a healthcare professional.

Is CBD legal? The 2018 Farm Bill removed hemp from the legal definition of marijuana in the Controlled Substances Act. This made some hemp-derived CBD products with less than 0.3% THC legal at the federal level. However, CBD products containing more than 0.3% THC still fall under the legal definition of marijuana, making them illegal at the federal level. Some states have legalized CBD, so be sure to check state laws, especially when traveling. Also, keep in mind that the FDA has not approved nonprescription CBD products, and some products may be inaccurately labeled.
